The Sperm is Spilling Out

September 18, 2001

Question

Dear Dr. Love,

Me & my Husband have been trying to have a baby for the past year & a half now. I can't seem to hold the sperm in. I have tried every way.

I don't know what to do. I don't eat much. And lately I have been so stressed out, cause of all my friends and other relatives are having kids as of this day, and they're able to take trips. I never even got a chance to have a good honeymoon with my husband. I would like to go to Florida.

Anyways, Like I was saying about having a baby. Not eating much is probably my answer. What can I do?

Answer

When a woman stands up after having had intercourse, it is normal for the sperm to spill out of the vagina. This is true for all woman and you are no exception. You sound very nervous and you even present your story as though you are a freak, like the only woman in the world for whom sperm spills out. Being stressed out is enough to prevent pregnancy from occurring!

If you cannot relax, then talk to a therapist. There may be other issues that are upsetting you. For one, you mention not having had a good honeymoon. Perhaps you are distressed in your relationship or angry with your husband. Maybe you don't even want to have a baby and your body is obeying your secret wish.

All these conflicts and emotional struggles can interfere with the body's proper functioning. So, see a therapist, identify and resolve all the issues that are upsetting you. When you are feeling better, your body should be willing to get down to business, if you really and truly want a baby.
