You Bleed After Each Act of Intercourse

Question

Dear Dr. Love,

Hello, I am 24 years old and about 4'11' tall. My boyfriend is about 6'2' tall and I need to ask you a question about our sex life. His penis is about 71/2 inches long and quite thick. Every time we have sex, I begin to bleed excessively.

I was wondering if it was because of our size differences or if it was something more serious. When he puts it inside me I usually don't start bleeding until he puts it all the way in.

Please let me know if this is serious and if there are any ways to prevent me from bleeding. We have tried different positions but still no help. I

love my boyfriend dearly and would always like to make him happy in every way possible but I need some advice. Please respond soon.

Answer

Bleeding is not normal. The vagina is made to stretch. Think about childbirth, in which your vagina has to widen to accommodate a far bigger package than a 7 1/2 inch penis!

The fact that you bleed when he enters you deeply makes me wonder if your cervix is irritated or infected. The best bet is to make an appointment with your gynecologist and get checked out.

You didn't say how old you are. Sometimes women who have passed menopause bleed with intercourse, due to the tissue erosion associated with the loss of estrogen. As tissues erode and become thinner, they can become injured and bleed more easily.

The only other question you may want to examine is whether you are adequately lubricated. If you are very dry, it is conceivable that you are getting injured during intercourse.

My first guess, however, is that you have a cervical infection. Good luck.
