Young Woman Who Bleeds After Intercourse

Question

Hi Dr. Love,

I pray you answer my question because it's been bothering me for some time and I can't seem to find any answers. I'm twenty years old and living with my boyfriend. When we first had sex, it was MY first time. I bled, as I expected, I hear that's normal.

But what isn't normal, is that I still bleed. Sometimes it's not very much, sometimes it's a big mess. It doesn't hurt at all during sex, but I feel so upset and embarrassed afterwards.

My boyfriend is so sweet and sensitive about it, but I want it to stop. Please...can you help me?

Answer

Bleeding isn't normal and the only way to solve the problem is to diagnose the cause of it. You are going to need to see a good gynecologist who will examine you.

There are all sorts of possible causes from the bleeding from low estrogen levels leading to tissue erosion (more common in menopausal women) to infections to structural abnormalities.

Have someone take a look at you right away and be on the road to a cure tomorrow.
