Financial Stress
I am a 50 year old woman who is divorced and tired of living alone. I have been in a relationship with a 48 year old man for two years, however, the last year has been hell.
He lost his job due to company downsizing. He has not been able to find another one that pays as much as the other one did, so he is working full time, making $6 less an hour and then working two nights during the week and Saturday nights as a handyman for friends of his who bought an old house that they are renovating.
He still isn't making enough money to pay the bills but refuses to sell his home and look for a smaller...

Financial Stress
Dear Dr. Love, I have been married for almost 8 years now. I have 2 wonderful children whom I love dearly. My husband is not the same man that I said 'I DO' to. He has been replaced by some heartless self-rightious pig! He constantly is verbally putting me down and sometimes he even does it to the children. He has broken practically every dish and nick-nack in my home. I have stayed with him because quite frankly, I have nowhere else to go or the funds to start again. I realize how pathetic I sound and like something out of an afternoon talkshow. I guess my advice question would be why does a...

Financial Stress
Hi Doctor Love I really like your advice column and now find myself needing some advice. I hope something can save my relationship. I am a 46 year old male who has been living with my 82 year old mother for the last 10 years. In 1995 I met the love of my life. She is 50. She is the type that always likes to serve and help people. She shows a lot of compassion. Sine I met her, I have been through probably 10 jobs. There is a lot that goes with that subject. I'll save it for later. We are going on 7 years this July. It was very good for the first 3-4 years and has started to weaken to the...

Financial Stress
Dr Love, I've written to you before, implemented your suggestions, and yet find myself mired in a quagmire. My ex-fiance has been on again off again in a manner that has my head spinning. We were out in California visiting my daughter over Labor Day, and the last day we were there, she grew increasingly abrasive, culminating that night when she yelled at me telling me she didn't want me as a part of her life. By the time we were on the plane the next day, she was snuggling up to me again. We had already called off an August wedding, rescheduled it for November. . . and soon that too would be...

Financial Stress
Dear Dr. Love, I am 33 and I have two daughters, 15 who lives with her father and an 18 month old that I share custody of with her father. My husband left me 6 months ago after being together 7 1/2 years, married for 3 1/2. He is younger than me, he just turned 30. He told me he should never have gotten married and had a child until he was in his 30's. I still love him and am extremely depressed and hurt. I did not feel loved as a child by anyone, I felt rejected and worthless, like I didn't matter. I am so far in debt that it stresses me out so I drink a lot (get totally wasted and am...

Financial Stress
Dear Dr Love, I met my girlfriend Carly on 21st February 2001, the night we met we had no idea what would happen, what would become of us. Five months later and we are apart, we broke up three months ago, my life was turned inside out, upside down when she left me, I left college, I quit my job and I turned into a monster that no-body, not even my friends knew. I drank, I smoked, I took drugs, just to numb the pain of losing her, I still feel cut up inside, she went back to her ex-b/f and he messed her about again and now she has split up with him. I still love Carly, I love her more than...

Financial Stress
Hi my wife has been giving her mother money off of our credit card to help her with hard times. Her mother had to quit her job for health reasons and she is having a hard time dealing with this right now. But we have over $9500.00 credit card balance that I am trying to get paid off. But for the passed 4 weeks my wife has giving her mother over 800.00 off the card. I don't want to upset my wife about telling her that we can not keep this up or we are going to get in trouble alot more than we are now. How should I handle this? Thanks Randy

Financial Stress
I am a 45-year-old white male who is handicap, [my dad told me that the doctors do not know what type of handicap it is, I lost oxygen after I was born -- my IQ is 75% & I am boarder line retarded. Dad says I have a mind of a 10-year-old kid. ] I am dating this 30-year-old part black [her skin looks mainly tan like she is from Hawaii or from the beach] woman my dad does not want me to date her & he says it is not because of her skin color. I do love her very much & been dating since May 1st, 2000 -- but dad wants me to break it off, so I did like I was told. I did not like...
